February 1, 2021 Hello – We had a productive meeting this afternoon with Commerce Secretary Schultz to discuss the attached letter (we have 49 companies comprising 6,500+ employees). We stressed to the Governor’s team that we represent a diverse employee base racially and geographically. In addition, we are willing to have mass inoculation events over several days in several locations to cover the whole state. Moreover, we emphasized the current website sign up plan is challenging to navigate, and our employees are unlikely to follow through with this challenge which means they will not get shots. Furthermore, we shared that we are here to support whatever plan we can accomplish to make this work. Secretary Schultz and the Governor’s office shared these comments/insights: 1. Governor would love to get more shots but they are not getting enough from Pfizer and Moderna. 2. 1A and 1B categories must go first. Manufacturing employees cannot jump in line. 3. Maryland has a population of 2mil people in the eligible categories however the state is only receiving 10,000 doses a day – intractable problem for the Governor. 4. The Secretary tasked us with homework - she asked us how many of the people on our list are “mission critical?” a. Can you please email Gabrielle Silgalis GSilgalis@marlinwire.com How many in your team are mission critical? b. While we are at it……….can you tell us how many of these mission critical employees will really take the if they are offered it. Please poll your workers. We don’t want to go to bat for employees that will not show up. 5. It will be easier for us to get this accomplished if the list were streamlined in this fashion, so our “ask” is smaller. We explored teaming up with the Grocery Stores – cashiers and stocking – front line people - people we can share a mass inoculation event with simultaneously. The meeting was very collaborative and we will continue pressing our case. Please email Gabrielle asap so we can update the Governor’s office with tighter numbers. We are having a follow up meeting with them in one week. Thanks again for your support and I hope we will be able to help our employees with our unified effort.
