Purpose This Material Handling and Heavy Equipment section has been developed to protect our company employees from safety hazards that may be encountered during work that involves the use of heavy equipment.

Scope and Application The Material Handling and Heavy Equipment section applies to any employee required to operate heavy equipment or machinery to perform work such as excavating, trenching, demolition, site clearing, etc.

Responsibilities Management: • Ensure that all employees required to operate equipment will be trained accordingly • Provide safe and appropriate equipment and/or machinery relative to the work being performed Employees: • Inspect vehicles at the beginning of each shift and during each shift as necessary • Repair or replace any damaged, missing, or inoperable parts and notify supervisor • Will perform appropriate lockout/tagout procedures to indicate the equipment or machinery has been removed from service if the above cannot be completedimmediately • Ensure that all equipment has seats with operable seat belts and are seat quantity is adequate for the number of workers • Machines or equipment with an obstructed rear view will not be operated unless it hasa reverse signal that is capable of being heard above additional noise levels • Equipment will have roll-over protection and overhead protection as needed
